    General Position Summary

    The Marketing Manager - Pet Owner (MMPO) is responsible for the development and execution of all pet owner-focused short and long-term marketing programs for Vetsource products and services. The MMPO is a critical role in the evolution of the marketing team, as this person will act as the primary driver of how we help our customers, the veterinary practices, market their Home Delivery service to their clients.


    This position’s responsibilities will include defining the competitive landscape, product positioning/messaging, market intelligence, pet owner experience, campaigns, and activities driving awareness, interest, and sales opportunities.


    The person in this role is a strong leader, skilled at building collaborative relationships to strengthen audience engagement in ways that advance Vetsource’s mission, marketing & business goals. The MMPO collaborates in setting the strategy, channel coverage and key performance indicators (KPIs) in concert with insights, content strategy and business stakeholders. This person is the advocate for the pet owner’s experience throughout their engagement with Vetsource’s products and services including but not limited to their web experience through our customer’s shopping sites, their customer care experience via all communication channels, their order and purchase experience through the pharmacy and overall satisfaction with interactions with the Vetsource brand.

    • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing to develop marketing strategies that will generate engagement, market share growth, and profitability to both veterinary customers and the company.
    • Coordinate with Marketing team and business stakeholders to implement product marketing plans and drive veterinary customer marketing activities.
    • Develop product positioning and messaging in collaboration with content specialists that differentiates Vetsource products in the market by understanding customer needs, product roadmap, market trends, and competitive forces within the veterinary industry, specific to pet owners.
    • Guide the development and implementation of creative assets across multiple channels including, but not limited to: landing pages, email, web/mobile, print and social media.
    • Collaborate with Marketing Analyst to determine effectiveness of marketing campaigns and designs, and provide recommendations for enhancements.
    • Interpret research, business requirements, and marketing conditions in collaboration with other team members to inform development of design artifacts such as personas, journeys, and scenarios.
    • Determine go-to-market channel strategies for new products and services relative to the pet owner.
    • Develop financial models to describe business case of new product/channel opportunities.
    • Develop, drive and implement omni-channel marketing activities to support the marketing team.
    • Understand the competitive landscape and identify strategic opportunities and threats.
    • Audit and work to optimize return on investment (ROI) for efforts within each channel.
    • Provide context and general market-based insights through the acquisition and interpretation of third-party studies, whitepapers and published research documentation.
    • Manage day-to-day relationships pertaining to Vetsource stakeholders – building and fostering collaborative relationships while advocating for the value of the marketing team.
    • Investigate and research the best processes to impact the pet owner’s experience with our brand and to foster strong relationships between the pet owner and our veterinary customers.

    Knowledge and Experience

    • Track record of marketing success at a large organization in marketing, brand or creative leadership positions.
    • BA or BS in a related field
    • Demonstrated understanding of a complex competitive landscape.
    • Effective stewardship of a brand while raising the organization’s national profile and advancing business goals.
    • Experience leveraging emerging marketing trends, including effective use of digital, multimedia and experiential marketing platforms.
    • Experience with each of the following: content marketing, digital engagement, brand expression through creative and messaging, and marketing automation.
    • A track record for solving complex problems, managing across many teams, and driving results.
    • Demonstrated excellence in leading operations from concept to strategy development to implementation.
    • Ability to balance need for creativity with a data-driven approach to measuring impact and success.
    • Understanding of all aspects of content marketing, social media marketing, influence marketing, and communications, including omni-channel and marketing automation principles.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all deliverables.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate clearly and passionately both in writing and verbally. Positive attitude and solution-oriented approach to work is a must.

    This person builds effective partnerships with discipline leaders while representing and advocating for the customer in all forms to the rest of the group. This may require strong influence in the short term, leading by example with a best-practice and inquisitive mindset.

    Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions

    The position is based in Portland, Oregon. As much as 15 percent travel could be required. The Vetsource offices are dog friendly work spaces.
